Aliens: Colonial Marines female absence sparks petition

Last month Aliens: Colonial Marines producer Brian Burleson revealed in a live chat that the game will not feature any female playable characters in multiplayer. There are however female playable characters in the single player campaign. Despite the Aliens franchise having one of the most iconic female protagonists in cinematic history the character customization for multiplayer does not allow players to choose a female character.
The game has since come under fire for its lack of diversity and under-representation of female characters. A petition for the inclusion of female multiplayer characters has been started over at iPetitions by a user Melissa K under the user name MOOSH89. She initially began the petition to raise 1000 digital signatures but since the petition began in early June, she has amassed over 2000 at the time of this story.
On the petition page Melissa K writes, “The Aliens franchise is dominated by strong females such as Ripley, Vasquez, Ferro, Dietrich, and most importantly, The Queen."
Gearbox has not yet responded to the petition.
