THQ has confirmed layoffs in their administration and publishing departments. The layoffs come after the company announced a change in strategy that sees THQ exiting the children's game market.

"THQ confirms a reduction in force to the company's administration and publishing organization," reads a statement provided to GameSpot. "As recently announced, the company is exiting the kids' licensed games category, and is focusing on its core game franchises and developing its digital initiatives."

While THQ did not state how many employees were being let go their five internal studios--Vigil, Volition, Relic, THQ San Diego, and THQ Montreal--were not affected by the layoffs. More information regarding the restructuring and the change in focus should be discussed on February 2nd at the company's third quarter conference call.
